‘A world driven only by thought is static in black, white and grey sophistication. Emotions fill it up with all shades of colour and motion, providing dimension, texture and movement’. Great article on the connect between rationality and emotion as I understand it.
Emotions and reason go hand in hand. Emotions are justified with a rational reason to it. To act based on an emotion is subjective, and can be quantified by every individual differently. Hence in a professional setting it’s advised to follow protocols, in order to not act by emotion and rather rational mindset.
There’s such an authentic vulnerability apparent throughout the article. I quite liked the confession of “love to cry.” I’ve never felt worse after a cry.
I also like the proposed idea of viewing emotions and rationality horizontally. It is such a simple way of explaining a rather complex relationship between the two.
This is an unusally insightful and brilliantly written article. This is a deep subject. Here is my take briefly.
It leads to an unpleasant situation in case of a conflict betwwen the rational mind and emotional mind. Someone has correctly said that short-term decisions should be made using more of rational mind. But long-term decisions should use more of emotional mind. The chalenge is in striking an equal balance between the two, which is very rare and beyond the control for many of us. People are born with both. But many of us have more or less of one. The significant excess or deficiency of either will produce undesirable results for that person and/or another connected person. Most of the crimes, wars, riots, cults, breaks in relationship etc., take place when there is an serious imbalance between these two amogst the persons involved. Most deceptions and frauds take place when at least one party has some imbalance. We all can see the consequences or side effects of this imbalance in our day to day life. This will go on as long as human being exists. Expressing more or less emotions is part of who we are. As long as we are not vulnerable to the consequence of our emotions, merely expressing it, is perfectly normal. We have to be at peace by being ourselves all the time.
The heart has its reasons of which reason knows nothing." - Pascal
....The reason has its heart of which the heart feels nothing....Great piece on holistic abstraction, perception and meaning making.

They have a lovers' quarrel; so it seems to the public. In their warm silent privacy though, they intimately hold hands together around each other.
